Re "Reject Keystone pipeline" (Letters, Feb. 4): Letter writer Megan Elsea's opposition to the pipeline misses on three points regarding climate change.
First, rejection of the pipeline will not prevent it's extraction from Canadian soil. Canada still will dig it out and sell it to another country.
Second, nothing the United States does affects climate change. We can try to set a good example for the world to follow, but good luck getting China or India to agree.
Finally, which or the renewable energy sources will replace the gasoline? Electric autos need batteries recharged, usually with electricity produced by burning coal or natural gas.
I suppose we could go back to horses but then there's the methane problem.
