Re Public pensions: San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed continues his attack on the retirement security of public servants. Now, he has announced his intention to sue Attorney General Kamala Harris over her accurate assessment of his proposal to eliminate vested retirement benefits.

Reed denies his measure would eliminate anything. But the initiative's own language allows government employers to terminate a pension or retiree healthcare plan of their employees.

No matter what word you use, the end result is the same. Reed and his pension-bashing cohorts want to eliminate the retirement plans of the hard-working men and women who serve the public every day, teachers, police officers, firefighters, nurses, all of them.
