Re "Secondhand smoke ruins Sacramento's outdoor dining" (Viewpoints, Feb. 5): I wanted to thank Dr. Thomas W. Hopkins for his support of a Sacramento city ordinance prohibition of smoking in outdoor dining areas.
Toxic air contaminants have no place in public settings where children, the elderly and sensitive persons dine or gather. The ordinance should be expanded to restrict smoking within 20 feet of an outdoor dining area or business entrance.
The City Council should also consider including the newest nicotine delivery system, e-cigarettes, which are attempting to lure our teens and young adults into this addictive and unhealthful lifestyle.
