Re "Border crossers get split-second justice" (Page A5, Feb. 12): I think it's great that we deported 1.9 illegal immigrants in December using Operation Streamline. But why are there still so many making the attempt to come here? Could it be the continuing incentives provided by our antiquated birthright citizenship law?

The United States and Canada allow birthright citizenship to the offspring of people who sneak across our borders and have children. I'm not suggesting we take away citizenship already gained, but we can change the law prospectively with a one year notice to the world, and simultaneously stop birth tourism in the bargain.
