Re "Ex-New Orleans mayor Nagin is convicted of taking bribes" (A4, Feb. 13):

As a former lifelong resident of New Orleans (I relocated to Auburn post-Katrina) I am thrilled to see that the mostly Democrat city of New Orleans had the sense to convict former mayor and slimeball Ray Nagin of 20 out of 21 criminal counts against him. I was convinced that he would slither away unscathed. Please remember that this is the person who had buses available to transport people out of the city prior to Katrina's landfall, yet chose to do nothing. It was Nagin and former La. governor Kathleen Blanco (another Democrat) who were responsible for the debacle that befell my beloved city, not Bush. I hope he rots in prison and I hope he gets more than the 20 years that may be his sentence. Thirty years or more would be appropriate. He is a thief and a scoundrel. Good riddance!
