Re "Annual fest celebrates all of Chinese culture" (Our Region, Feb. 16): Taiwanese, who represent approximately 85 percent of the people residing in Taiwan, do not share the "dream" of uniting with China. While the KMT may want to unite with Communist China, the majority of Taiwanese maintain that the future of Taiwan must be determined by self-determination by the residents of Taiwan.
In fact, according to the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1952, Japan ceded the claim of Taiwan without any designated recipient. International law clearly states that Taiwan belongs only to its people, neither to ROC nor to PRC.
