Arena subsidy was not debated seriously

Re "Judge’s ruling slapping down arena ballot measure could not be clearer" (Editorials, Feb. 28): The Editorial Board writes that the council members debated the arena deal at length. When? The draft subsidy deal was finalized last March 23 and approved by the council three days later. At that meeting, council members heard hours of presentations, but restricted themselves to emitting safe sound bites. There was no real debate. You can watch the video of the non-debate on the city council's webpage. Council members didn't even ask what the annual costs would be before voting. The council seems unaware of the loopholes in the draft deal connected with the hotel-condo development, profit sharing, and the capital repairs fund.
