Re "Ukraine accuses Russia of invading" (Page A1, March 1): Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of the sovereign nation of Ukraine is the 21st Century's equivalent of Hitler's invasion of Poland and must be stopped by all means necessary. This is no time for Chamberlain-like appeasement. We must act to make Putin know that he risks the loss of Russian civilization unless he withdraws, adopts civility, acts within the strictures of international law, and exercises restraint. We need to instruct Putin that Soviet hegemony in Eastern Europe is over and that America has not lost its nerve, nor abandoned its historic role as the defender of freedom against despotic military aggression.
