The evil of slavery is not a mystery

Re " '12 Years' makes us face the truth of slavery so we can start healing" (Viewpoints, March 5): Leonard Pitts urges people to see the movie, "12 Years A Slave," so they can heal. I go to very few movies and when I do, I go to be entertained.

If people need a movie about slavery to deal with the idea of slavery, or to figure out that it is a horrible experience that degrades both the slave and the slave owner, then there is something seriously wrong with people. I read and I read everything I can get my hands on, but I don't even have to read about slavery. Besides, it is still going on today and I don't see anyone really airing anything about the present-day slavery.
