Homeless issue requires a statewide strategy

Re "Known for its generosity, Auburn sees more homeless" (Our Region, March 8): The article illustrates what can be done to deal successfully with the age-old homeless problem.

It also highlights the lack of a comprehensive statewide approach to the problem.

Auburn shouldn't be a magnet for the homeless from other jurisdictions which fail to provide the needed services. The state should develop a statewide plan requiring all jurisdictions to have adequate services for the homeless. No one should have to live on the streets because of lack of social services.
