Sen. Padilla's campaign ploy

Re "Lawmakers use hearings for personal electoral gain" (Dan Walters Daily, March 11): Dan Walters hit the nail on the head recently. Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Los Angeles, is using the legislative process as a way of bolstering his prospects in what has become a real dogfight over who will become the California next Secretary of State.
Padilla's recent hearing on how technology can be used to improve voter registration and turnout may have centered on a worthy enough topic, but there was no there there. It's a lot like the incessant grandstanding over his SB 270, which would ban plastic retail bags statewide. It's a hollow bill that seeks to address a problem that isn't there.
Taxpayers are footing the bill for the hearing which is a campaign ploy to keep his name in the news as Election Day nears.
