McClintock seeks attention

Rep. Tom McClintock's proposal to rename Mammoth Mountain in Yosemite is only a publicity move.

No effort has been made to work with anybody to get the bill passed. The Yosemite Rim Fire Salvage Bill and the Merced River Plan hearing in Washington, D.C., exploited the world wide recognition of this national park to get attention for McClintock.

McClintock stopped a proposal for a visitor information center in Mariposa, which would have solved the problem of hour-long backups at the constricted Merced River entrance. And of course he supported the government shutdown last fall, turning away many visitors and causing substantial harm to businesses in and around Yosemite.
