Re "College entrance measure shelved" (Page A1, March 18): Speaker John A. Perez and other Democrats in California and across America are fearful of a tsunami this fall due to the catastrophe of Obamacare and the failure of Obamanomics.

Lies about health care, savings and the unemployment rate spell doom for many Democrats.

Proposition 209, as well as Proposition 13 were passed by popular votes when Democrats in state government did not listen to voters, including in 1978 when Jerry Brown was governor. Perez sees the overhaul of Propositions 209 and 13 as disastrous in an election year. -- Mike McAdoo, San Francisco
