Re "Farmers face a bleak year" (Page A1, March 20): With farmers facing a $7.5 billion loss plus 20,000 unemployed in 2014 alone, it is way past time for action to create additional water storage.
Legislators are fretting over plans, with totals ranging from $6 billion to $11 billion. The state cannot accept the wrangling such as that occurred over the Auburn Dam. Funding for the Temperance Flat reservoir needs immediate action. Begin these projects with state money. Concurrently, address congressional assistance to raise Shasta Dam and San Luis Reservoir.
Water is considerably more important than subsidies to Hollywood or auto manufacturers.
