Cattle are the problem

Re "Crops, not Chops" (Letters, March 22): Michelle Kunert was right on in her letter about the problem with the cattle industry today. While contributing less than 2 percent to the GDP, the 1.5 billion cattle grazing on more than 155 million acres of public land, consume incredible amounts of water while returning to the land animal wastes loaded with tons of pesticides and antibiotics. This contributes to land degradation, including groundwater pollution.

It might be time to rethink our priorities.
