Many kinds of farmers' markets

Re Sales thrive as new sites pop up" (Business, March 23): While I enjoyed reading the farmers' market article in this Sunday's Bee, I disagree with the description of a real market as one in which people come, buy their stuff and go. That market is one model.

The Oak Park Farmers' Market, founded and operated by NeighborWorks Sacramento, is another model, one in which people meet up with neighbors, listen to live music and take a free yoga class.

Our customer base is very diverse, and we accept EBT (CalFresh) and WIC benefits. Many customers say they are loyal to our market because they love the neighborly feel of a smaller-scale market.

I disagree that Sacramento is saturated with farmers' markets. We need to better connect with the thousands of residents who have yet to visit one of Sacramento's farmers' markets.
