Re "25-story resident towers planned," (Page A1, March 27): I find it hilarious that the critic of the 25-story Sacramento Commons, Jim Pachl, is described as an environmentalist who says the high-density development will ruin the area's bucolic, garden-like setting.

For years, environmentalists and smart growth advocates have preached for higher density urban infill projects, despite the fact that most folks prefer some lawn and garden space around their abodes. However, when a true high density comes along that is also close to mass transit, it is criticized.

I have a suggestion: if you want garden-like bucolic and low-density settings, do what most residents of the area have done and move out of downtown to one of the many leafy Sacramento suburbs.
