Joel Anderson had it right

I am a 50 year old Democrat, who is becoming increasingly disillusioned with our political system in this state. I watched the special session Friday and thought Sen. Joel Anderson, R-Fallbrook, spoke very well. He was right. Suspension of three senators who face criminal charges or have been convicted of wrongdoing wasn't enough. I admire him for being the single vote against suspension. I also watched when Anderson moved for the expulsion of Sen. Ron Calderon two weeks earlier. In my opinion, Sen. President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg treated Anderson like a child. I was ashamed to call myself a Democrat that day. These are the people we elect and pay to lead us. I am not naive enough to think that our elected officials are above reproach. Unfortunately, some of them seem to think that they are. This is not politics as usual. This is big. And I hope that people take note of it. These people are not just a check box on a ballot. When you put them in office, they make decisions that affect all of us. -- Chris Hickman, Fair Oaks
