Re "A friend long gone, but never forgotten" (Dan Morain, March 30): I read the article about Rocky Cole and it really hit a nerve. I read Rocky's actual obituary when it came out recently and remembered it specifically due to the mention of The Rolling Stones, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. I grew up during that same period of time and loved all the same music.

I had an older brother who went to Vietnam. I started receiving letters from my brother and he told me to avoid the military at all costs.

I found the dedication to Rocky by his buddy Gordon very moving. I will never forget after my older brother came back from the service and he had a poster in his apartment that said, "War changes us all." He actually never left the carnage that he witnessed in Vietnam.

Thanks for heartfelt article about two good friends.
