Re "Election Donor Limits Lifted," (Page A1, April 3): While the rest of us are struggling to make ends meet, the wealthy are successfully destroying democracy.

As our government continues to pander to the corporations and the wealthy people who own them, the wealthy aren't creating jobs but are instead trying to render the masses voiceless in the democratic process. With the money they contribute to campaigns, the wealthy are able to control the election-related messages, which can significantly influence voters' decisions.

In return, those they help elect are expected to pay them back by passing favorable legislation. In fact, many of the bills presented in congress are actually written by the lobbyists and/or corporations themselves. Accordingly, democracy ends when the votes are counted and the plutocratic process begins. It used to be that with great privilege came great responsibility. Apparently, that is no longer the case.
