Hope for Oak Park

Re "Betting on Oak Park's diversity" (City Beat, April 7): I would like to address the three problems that plague Oak Park which were discussed in Ryan Lillis' article.
He mentioned there was recently a gang war in Oak Park. I believe this is not the norm, but a very rare occurrence.
He also mentioned that one third of Oak Park residents live in poverty. Poverty doesn't always warrant hopelessness and despair. However, if the city works with the businesses in Oak Park to help create job opportunities for those in poverty, maybe it will help decrease the poverty rate.
Finally, the police department needs to develop a comprehensive plan and be more diligent in eradicating prostitution in certain areas. I lived in Oak Park for nearly 19 years, and I see great hope for a safer, more affordable neighborhood.
