Senator Carol Liu and Governor Jerry Brown are trying to pass SB 173, an absurd piece of nonsense that assaults one of our state's most successful programs: parent education.

Parent education is a proven educational program, one in which little ones ages 1 to 4 attend classes side by side with their adult family memberss. Parent dducation instructors are early childhood education experts, who are assisted by a highly qualified paraprofessional assistant. Parent education program children excel in kindergarten and the grades thereafter.

Our local El Monte Union High School District's Parent Education Program has existed since 1932 and can boast that so many of its gradudates become attorneys, doctors, teachers and business leaders. It should not be eliminated.
