Re "Zero energy greenhouses far from a silver bullet in combating carbon emissions": Honda agrees that reducing energy consumption through practical means is the foundation of sustainable building. A critical fact omitted from Mr. Ortiz's article is the Honda Smart Home was designed to use less than half of the energy of a similarly sized new home in the Davis area.

While it is true some of the newly developed technologies featured in the home, like the Home Energy Management System and Circadian Rhythm Lights are experimental and therefore expensive, many of the home's energy efficient and low carbon construction methods and technologies are already widely available to the public. Honda is promoting their widespread use through this project.

Companies like Honda are spending money now developing carbon reducing technology, so everybody can enjoy a zero carbon lifestyle in the coming years.
