Wastewater is a waste of water

Re "California looking to recycled water to ease drought concerns" (Page A1, April 14): The real solution to recycling wastewater is to not put feces in the water in the first place. And, urine is easily and safely diluted to feed gardens.
Feces is best recycled by being composted in its original solid-ish state. Putting it in water is the lazy way to remove it from our porcelain thrones, a ploy that was originally expedient for the upper-most classes. En masse, it's an ecological and energy-wasting disaster.
It takes far more energy to remove and treat than it would if our bodily waste technologies were restructured to employ the sensible designs available for composting privies.
