Re "City would sprout new billboards in Kings deal" (Our Region, April 15): North of the city and west of Business 80 is Sutter's Landing. Once a city dump, it's now known by many of us as Sutter's Landing.
There has been a desire to take this piece of land, add it to the American River bike trail and create a large park like other world class cities. New York has Central Park, Los Angeles has Grand Park, and San Francisco has Golden Gate Park. What these communities understand is the importance of community gathering places within their metropolitan cities. Parks are by their very nature, the essence of life.
So now the city of Sacramento wants to take one of its last pieces of open space, that would be an easy conversion to parkland, and put up a digital billboard. These signs are extremely bright. The city in its consideration of this idea, not so bright.
