Re "Wee Pals" (Comics, April 20): Sometimes treasured things turn up in odd places. Sunday's "Wee Pals" paid tribute to Mom Chung. I was jolted back to my childhood watching my father, who was a Navy pilot in the Pacific during World War II.
Several times a year he would get a letter, and sometimes a small package, from Mom Chung. We could see how excited he was and were very impressed that this famous woman doctor would send these treasures to Father. He held her in reverence, gratitude and love.
I recall how sad the whole family felt when we heard of this amazing woman's death. I never knew her real name before. I wish Morrie Turner were alive for me to thank. He and Mom Chung are both real heroes.
