Re "School issue splits GOP" (Page A1, April 20): I teach kindergarten, and this is the third year I have implemented the Common Core standards in my classroom. I definitely see an improvement in my students' capabilities, and so does our second grade teacher who has my first group.
I don't think we should focus on whether the Democrats or Republicans support the Common Core. We should focus on whether these new standards are good for students and educators.
Also, we need to figure out how we are going to help the educators implement the standards so they are advantages for the students. I know Teachers Pay Teachers and Pinterest have some very good lessons developed by other teachers using the Common Core already for teachers to use. Let's be proactive and support the Common Core Standards.
