De Leon solves a mystery

Re "Dems look for way past turmoil" (Page A1, April 26): When Sen. Kevin de Leon states, "If it weren't for affirmative action, I, Kevin de Leon, wouldn't be here today," isn't he saying his grades were too low to get into college? And doesn't this solve the mystery of the poor performance of some of California's legislators?
