Schubert doesn't have to denounce brother

Re "Schubert cites experience, passion for justice in run for Sacramento County DA" (SacBee.com, April 29): This is my first letter to the editor, but I am upset. A recent article said members of the gay community are not backing Anne Marie Schubert because she will not denounce her brother. Really? Isn't that hypocritical? Don't most people, including gay people, want to be judged by their own merits? In fact, doesn't the gay community want other people to not judge them?

As a retired investigator for the Sacramento District Attorney Office, I worked alongside Schubert on trials involving crimes of child molestation, child abuse and sexual assault. If I or someone I love is a victim of a crime, I want someone with a strong voice to prosecute the offender. I don't care if that person is straight, gay, or even a dolphin. I have seen Schubert be that victim's voice, and I know she is the best candidate.
