Re "Union takeover of policy sends schools back in time" (Opinion, April 27): Calling a teachers' organization a union is inaccurate. Unions include the Sierra Club, marriages, newspapers, religions, political parties, etc. If the Sacramento City Association is the topic, say this.
Praises to The Bee for information focusing on some problems in education. There is information about teachers resisting standardized testing of student performances and teacher evaluations. Teachers don't fight proper student performance testing and evaluations. Teachers evaluate their students' performances of themselves all the time testing what they have taught.
Standardized testing doesn't evaluate a particular teacher for what the teachers have taught. It's about gauging what very large groups of students know. Properly evaluating teachers, similar to all persons, is very challenging. Readers, please be educated, honest, and fair.
