Re "The thought police got Donald Sterling" (Viewpoints, May 3): Ralph Shaffer is so busy condemning the liberal media that he, like so many conservatives, ignores obvious facts about Donald Sterling.

True, the story leaked out in an unsavory manner, but calling his public persona more than satisfactory takes a leap of faith. Five years ago he paid $2.73 million dollars to settle claims that he refused to rent to blacks and Hispanics in one of his apartment houses. That demonstrates slightly less than satisfactory public persona to me.

Of course I, a liberal, have a skewed view of the world. Maybe conservatives should check all the facts first before making outrageous statements about the liberal media. We can't have logical debates about policy when one side ignores facts.

Sterling is not perfect, but he obviously has a complicated personality. To whitewash his actions and blame his problems on liberal media does everyone a disservice.
