Usable art in Sacramento?

Re "Sacramento gets bike racks that double as art" (Our Region, May 1): I think it's great that Sacramento wants to promote the arts and physical activities. However, I have a few concerns with the new usable art installations.

My first concern is that because it is art, no one will want to use it as a bike rack. My second concern is how the illusion is affected if /when the piece is being used as a bike rack. I have seen usable art go unused because it is art, and most people have been taught to never touch art.

I'm also concerned that the illusion will disappear when the art is being used. What will the city do to ensure the use of this art?
