Re "Plastic bag makers take to TV" (Capitol & California, May 13): Sen. Alex Padilla's ban on plastic bags is just one of the bans that will come in the near future in order to preserve local communities. However, this ban in particular has some edges to be filled out. I agree that plastic bags need to be removed from grocery stores, but this proposal, even with its financial help to the plastic bag companies, will leave many people in the industry jobless. Not only will it affect the workers of the bag companies, but it would introduce a 10-cent penalty to those who are without bags. Padilla is heading in the right direction with getting rid of plastic bags, but this plan is not the right way to go.
