Re "Arena parking plans hazy" (Page A1, May 19): The city of Sacramento, with or without an arena, needs to vastly improve parking downtown. The number of broken meters, malfunctioning payment booths, outdated technology and inadequate time allotments are all plagues those of us coming downtown for business or pleasure on a steady basis.

If better planning for parking comes out of this arena venture, that will at least make one good thing for all of us who experience an inadequate number of quarters, meters that eat them and give nothing in return and the myriad problems that poorly maintained, outdated and poorly planned current parking options provide.

It ain't fun trying to park in downtown River City. Those responsible for parking downtown need to sharpen their pencils and put their thinking caps on to improve things.
