Re "I'm optimistic about future of millennials, but they're not" (Forum, May 18): I'm not as optimistic as Jack Ohman is about the future for millennials, but I totally agree with his assessment of the problems these young people face.
My 29-year-old son is paying three times the rent his dad and I paid 30 years ago, and even with two jobs, he's earning less than either of us did at our union jobs. Both my kids have college degrees from the University of California and neither had ever landed jobs that offered health benefits or paid vacations. Talk about a rigged system.
Our selfish society has totally screwed this generation. I'm sorry, but that's not enough. Let's start thinking about something other than our big fat retirement funds and help these millennials dig out of the mess we helped create.
