Re "Senate approves bill to halve gifts to lawmakers" (Capitol Alert, March 19): The measure to cut in halves the amount of gifts lawmakers can get is a good perspective. Lawmakers are already making a ton of money. They don't need more to spend on things just to make their life more lavish and entertaining than ours. We vote them in through our direct democracy to represent us and not to get money from special and rich corporations to spend on their hobbies.
Also, with this measure it will reduce the influence of how money can corrupt our government just like how it did decades ago when SPR bought out the California government. Money from others to lawmakers is just money trying to win the lawmaker's heart to make him do what they want him to do.
It's not fair, and it's not right. Let the people of the State of California decide.
