Re "Frantic bid failed to stop killer" (Page A1, May 25): I am shocked and grieved by the tragedy in Isle Vista, but I am not surprised. We provide our children a steady diet of violence and profanity in movies, TV and video games.

We feed them self-esteem garbage starting in kindergarten, so they never have to deal with disappointment or failure. We give safe sex lectures, so that they consider sex an entitlement.

Where were the parents during this boy's troubled young life? Where were the schools during the years of bullying? What do we expect? We have failed our children.
