Re "VA Problem Awaits Us All (Page A10, May 27): I'm a huge fan of Veterans Affairs medical care. While Susan Scott's experience with the VA must have been different from mine, I have received outstanding care both in Virginia and here at Mather VAMC since retiring from the military in 1993. I briefly tried Kaiser and UC Davis under my employer's health plan but returned to the VA, more convinced than ever that its care is world class.
Like Scott, I'm no fan of delays, inefficiencies and rationing of care. Hence, I love the fact there is no insurance company involved. Appointments are easy to get, I never feel I'm asked to be seen just because my insurance company would pay for a visit and perhaps most important of all, staff members are always so kind to their patients.
Properly funded, the VA can be a model for a superb health system.
