VA fiasco: The Republicans' fault?

Re "Republicans are shameless hypocrites on veterans" (Viewpoints, June 3): Radio disc jockey turned editorialist Bruce Maiman throws the Veterans Affairs troubles to the Republicans. Bravo, Bruce. Clever, yet ill-conceived.

His conclusion is that the VA needs more money and Barack Obama's 6.5 percent increase will solve all our ills. Considering that would only be an 85 percent increase since Obama has been president, I'm sure things will be hunky dory with more money.

Or could it be the overworked 20,000 employees whose sole job is to book the 230,000 appointments per day as noted by Bruce? Oh, the pressure of booking 11 appointments in an 8-hour day that the VA is currently processing.

Wake up, Bruce. It's been six years and our president has done nothing, in spite of huge budget increases. Campaign promises kept? I think not, my friend.
