Bay Bridge: Time to privatize Caltrans

Re "Doubts persist on Bay Bridge job" (Page A1, June 8): How many debacles the magnitude of the Bay Bridge project does it take before the work Caltrans performs is privatized? Will those who mismanaged this project and wasted taxpayer money have to face the consequences? Only if the consequences consist of substantial pensions and possibly even bonuses for jobs well done.

Private employees can be fired and sued for gross negligence. When was the last time that happened to a civil servant?
