Re "Doubts persist on Bay Bridge" (Page A1, June 8): I read the article on mismanagement of the Bay Bridge construction. From sending $250-500 million to China to Caltrans relaxing building standards, I thought maybe people will get it now.
In the Great Recession, Caltrans decided it was best to send our tax dollars to China. The excuse being U.S. contractors couldn't do the work. Excuse me? We can do anything but I guess given the litigious country we live in we have no one to blame but ourselves, spill hot coffee on yourself and get a million bucks.
The bigger question I have is this: do we really expect the government to do any better with health care? I know, it's state versus federal, but it's all the same. We are going to hand over a big chunk of the economy to a government where there is no accountability. Think Veterans Affairs.
