Re "Deaths underscore record of poor medical care at the Sutter County jail" (Sacto 911, June 2): Our son Nathan's death was a tragedy, and it was preventable. While nothing can bring Nathan back, our sincerest hope is that the lawsuit over his death and recent press coverage regarding conditions at Sutter County's jail will lead to real changes, so no other family will have to endure what we have endured.
Sutter County has promised to give serious consideration to recommendations about how to fix its broken jail health care system- among them having medical staff on site around-the-clock to address emergencies, and appropriately re-training and holding accountable staff who fail in their duty to care for inmates.
We look forward to working with Sutter County to make sure that long overdue and life-saving changes are made.
