Triple Crown is not like the marathons

Re "Give horses more rest amid races" (Sports, June 11): I enjoy Ailene Voisin's comments on sports in general, but when she quoted Dr. Rick Arthur, California state equine medical director, as comparing the short spacing of the recent horse races to "like somebody trying to run the Boston Marathon and coming right back to run the New York Marathon," maybe a little fact check would have helped.

The Boston Marathon is in April, and the New York Marathon is in November. That is half a year with lots of rest. Any serious runner would be delighted to only run those two races with that generous training/resting interval between.
