Vergara: Probationary period for teachers

Re "No easy solution on instructors" (Viewpoints, June 12): I served a total of four years as a probationary teacher. Many readers may not realize the probationary period begins anew every time a teacher changes districts.
During my initial two years of teaching, I was not observed once although I received glowing evaluations. Someone may have noticed the bodies, but I could have been an ax murderer for all this administrator was concerned. Luckily for me she liked me. However, had she taken a dislike to me,I could have been fired with no reason required and no protection by the union.
On top of becoming vulnerable for another two years, every time a teacher changes districts in the same state, they may also lose years of seniority and benefits.
