Re "California teacher tenure and seniority system struck down" (June 12): The judge says tenure is depriving students of equal opportunity under the law. I would suggest it is parents who are depriving their underachieving kids of opportunity.

Stop blaming teachers and make parents participate in their kids' education. Make it mandatory that parents have the right and responsibility to be involved. There has to be some accountability from parents who have children but don't want the responsibility of raising and educating them. Getting rid of tenure won't make the root cause disappear.

I find it ironic that the nine students who filed the suit are being used like pawns by the very people who want to privatize schools in order to distance their children from them.
