Re "New speaker looks you in the eye" (Forum, June 22): The reader would be wrong to think the article would delve into new Speaker's understanding of current California political issues. The article's comment "You can really tell a lot about a person from their eye contact" reminded me of George W. Bush's statement about "looking into Putin's eyes and seeing his soul."
The Bee can do better than that. For example, Dan Walters' article regarding the realities of regional underemployment statistics and declining political engagement. Certainly something the new Speaker has ideas on. For the sake of transparency our recent political campaign got trashed by The Bee for not "understanding the (same) issues" by the one columnist while the other conservative columnist repeats the same facts and issues we pushed during the campaign.
Will Mariel Garza look into Walters' eyes and trash his observations? The article read more like a seance than news.
