Strange Catholic bedfellows

Re Pope denounces Mafia (Nation/World, June 21): Pope Francis excommunicated Italian mobsters for their path of evil in murder and drug trafficking. The Pope's only other public excommunication was of an Australian priest, Father Greg Reynolds, for publicly supporting the ordination of women as priests.

Apparently in the Pope's eyes, murder, drug trafficking and public support of women as priests are similar church offenses.
