Re "Eliminating teacher tenure won't improve public schools," (Forum, June 22): Erwin Chemerinksy and Catherine Fisk write that eliminating teacher tenure won't improve education. Many of us feel that education isn't the point. Teachers feel that they should be exempt from the rules the rest of us have to live by.
They want guaranteed jobs and freedom from evaluations. Welcome to our cruel world, teachers. We all have our work evaluated daily and are expected to produce concrete results or risk job loss. If that seems brutally harsh, well, we don't like it much either. We'd all love a cushy guaranteed gig.
However, don't expect much sympathy from those of us who have to scratch out a day-to-day living with little security. That's most of us.
