Re "Chain stores put more than quirkiness at risk" (Forum, June 22): I'm a loyal customer of all the small businesses mentioned, but that doesn't give me or them the right to restrict the choice of stores or restaurants for anyone else.

Chain stores are appropriate for commercial corridors like Sutterville Road. With the prospect of a major grocery store going in, locally-owned Burgess Burgers and Track 7 Brewing-both terrific- have sprung up nearby.

Small businesses thrive by being different or providing superior quality and service. Chain stores offer volume selection and pricing. We need both, not bans on competition. Let customers decide.
