Re "Big Tobacco kills sensible e-cig bills" (Editorial, June 27): I applaud the intelligence and courage of the editors of The Bee to raise awareness about the power of Big Tobacco to defeat tobacco control bills in Sacramento. One silver lining is the movement that has swept through city halls in New York, Los Angeles, Walnut Creek, San Francisco and cities all across America to pass laws to increase regulations of e-cigarettes.

SB 648 remains the best opportunity in 2014 to ban the sales of e-cigarettes in vending machines across California and prevent our youth from becoming addicted to nicotine. Perhaps the California Senate Majority Leader can strengthen SB 648 by removing the recent amendment inserted by pro-tobacco advocates, and returning to the original bill language that will regulate e-cigarettes as regular cigarettes?
